The Rabble Chorus began in 2009 as a community choir for those who didn’t see themselves quite fitting into the ‘choral society’ mould or taking themselves too seriously, but just really enjoyed singing. It is run by Kirsty Logan, a local professional musician, and the original group currently rehearses on Thursdays 8-9.30pm at Easton village hall or occasionally at the pub! Its success and popularity spawned a very successful second choir; the 'Daylight Rabble' Chorus, which rehearses 10.30 till 12 on tuesday mornings at St Johns Hall, Woodbridge. This choir has only been going since January but already has 50 regular members who are great fun to work with. A new Daylight Rabble has just started on May 2nd in Needham Market and will be running along the same lines with similar music. Please don't hesitate to get in touch or simply turn up if you want to give it a try.
The choir repertoire encompasses high brow, low brow and anything in-between. In the last 2 years we have sung a massive range of material locally, from pop songs by Divine Comedy and Peter Gabriel, numbers from musicals, unusual British folk songs and cheeky French madrigals to African gumboot chants. Further afield we have sung Carmina Burana at the Royal Albert Hall as part of The Really Big Chorus for charity. We don’t audition or make anyone sing solo and we don’t mind if people have never sung before or whether they can read music. It’s really all about the sense of achievement, community and fun to be had from singing together.
Recent events have included performing unusual Christmas songs at the Christmas Shopping evening in Framlingham on December 2nd, and another lovely Christmas concert in Easton church on December 8th. In 2012 we should be fitting in some more local events as listed below, and having a look at what our next Albert Hall performance will be.
We are always happy to have new members. Just get in touch or turn up to a rehearsal.
