"The only thing better than singing is more singing!" - Ella Fitzgerald Why join a choir? I can't really say it any better than this article... http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2008/aug/26/healthandwellbeing.fitness Why join THIS choir? This choir is not going to bring you fame, turn you into a brilliant soloist or make you a superb sightsinger but the sense of achievement, community and quiet enjoyment will make rehearsals something you don't want to miss. Although you don't need to be able to read music at all you will gradually find yourself getting to the point where it becomes easier to have the music in front of you than not and you'll find that you have been picking up notation skills without realising! Rehearsal recordings of each vocal part are uploaded onto the net (or put on CD for those not online) for choir members to practise with which speeds learning considerably and means we can tackle a lot of music quickly without rehearsals getting dull and repetetive. The real mix of musical styles tackled means you are constantly kept on your toes expanding your musical repertoire, your memory and your abilities. Singing for local events and concerts give you that extra buzz of nerves and performance highs that can really pull a group together. The chance to sing at the Royal Albert Hall with the Really Big Chorus is another great opportunity and something really worth working towards when a choir is ready - the first Rabble Chorus in Easton got to this stage by the second year of its existence and performed brilliantly despite some really tricky corners in the music. Where and When? The original Rabble Chorus meet on a Thursday evening 8 - 9.30 pm at Easton Village Hall, Easton, Suffolk (and occasionally at the White Horse pub too!). Each session costs £3 and you only pay for those you are able to attend. The Woodbridge Daylight Rabble runs on Tuesday mornings at 10.30 a.m, St.Johns Hall, Woodbridge, running along similar lines and costs but during the morning for those people who can't always get out in the evenings. The Needham Market Rabble Chorus runs on Wednesday mornings at 10.30 a.m Needham Market Community Centre (behind the High Street), also costs £3 per session attended. |
